Autumn Budget 2026: what to know ahead of 28 October

The date is set: the Chancellor will deliver the Autumn Budget on Wednesday 28 October 2026, and it will be John Healey's first Budget as Chancellor.

The date was confirmed in the Chancellor's letter to the Treasury Select Committee, published on GOV.UK on 31 July 2026. The Office for Budget Responsibility will publish its economic and fiscal forecast alongside the Budget on the same day.

Beyond that, very little can be said with confidence. The contents of a Budget are, by long-standing convention, revealed on the day itself — anyone claiming to know the detail in advance should be treated with scepticism.

A few practical notes ahead of the day:

  • Pay attention to confirmed rates and thresholds taking effect from April 2027. These often matter more to businesses than the headline announcements.
  • - If you're planning major decisions — profit extraction, property transactions, pension contributions — speak to your accountant before the Budget, not after. Retroactive planning is rarely as effective.
  • - We'll publish a summary of the confirmed measures here once the Chancellor has finished speaking.

What are you hoping — or worried — the Budget might change?
