Partners in Personalisation was founded by Lorraine McLaughlin and Sandra Monaghan, who both live in North Ayrshire and have young adult children with additional support needs. As carers ourselves, we understand the importance of flexibility and balance, which is why we work from home to support both our families and the individuals we work with.
We first met over 10 years ago while taking part in North Ayrshire’s Self-directed Support Pathfinder. Alongside a group of families with children with disabilities, we worked closely with the local authority to test and shape the Self-directed Support process — from initial needs assessments and support planning through to receiving personal budgets.
For us, and many others in the group, the experience was life changing. Having the freedom to choose and design support that truly met our children’s individual needs gave us a sense of control and confidence that had not been there before.
Through this journey, we recognised the value of sharing our experiences and supporting other families to feel empowered to take control of their own care arrangements — whether for themselves or a loved one.
Today, we support families across Ayrshire and throughout Scotland. We bring not only professional knowledge, but also lived experience of caring and managing individual budgets, allowing us to offer practical, empathetic, and informed support.
Choice and control are at the heart of everything we do. We help individuals and families explore their options through Self-directed Support, ensuring they feel confident in making the decisions that are right for them.
Partners in Personalisation is a Community Interest Company (CIC) — a not-for-profit social enterprise. Any surplus we generate is reinvested into supporting more individuals, families, and carers through their Self-directed Support journey and beyond.
