MB VAT Services is run by Mark Burke. Mark worked in various VAT roles for HM Customs & Excise (then HMRC) for 30 years, and also has more than 10 years of private sector experience working for large companies including Abbey Tax and Markel.
During his career with HMC&E/HMRC, Mark was principally a visiting officer, covering businesses of all sizes from corner shops to multi-nationals, as well as being the lead investigator in a Cross Tax Evasion Team. Mark has also worked on assignment in Lusaka for the Zambia Revenue Authority to formulate a national strategy to combat the informal economy and design a training programme for their training managers.
Mark joined Abbey Tax in January 2009 and led the VAT team for several years, supporting the VAT advice line and the claims team by assisting their UK-wide insured clients with disputes arising from HMRC VAT investigations, through to ADR meetings and Tribunal appeals when necessary.
In recent years, Mark’s efforts have been more focused on providing detailed specialist VAT advice for accountancy practices and VAT consultancy services for their clients
In 2020 Mark built on these achievements by setting up MB VAT Services to continue providing specialist VAT consultancy and advice on complex VAT issues to clients, across a wide variety of sectors.
