Hi, I'm Frances, the founder of Elan Bookkeeping. I started out doing my accountancy training with the Civil Service. I learned how to set budgets for multi million pound projects, write training guides for newly installed finance systems, run finance seminars and sit exams. Moving out into agencies and then local government, gave me hands on experience of putting together company accounts and working with auditors. All great experience but, it always came back to number crunching.
On my maternity break I took a weekend job doing viewings for an Estate Agent. It turned out that the owner of the independent agency wanted to expand and had been told by his accountant to get his books in order, so aware of my financial background, he asked me if I could help and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since then I have worked with a variety of small businesses, sorting out their records, learning more finance packages, reducing creditors, developing cashflows, even sorting out utility contracts. But the best thing about working with small businesses are the businesses themselves; the people, the products, the services. It’s no longer just number crunching, but what the figures, your receipts, invoices & payments, say about your business, how it is doing and most importantly where it can go.
?And the name Elan? It means energy, style, enthusiasm. I've always found that small businesses are driven by enthusiastic people, who put all their energy into making their passion a success & I Iove helping them achieve it.
